Skillgroups are the means by which skill Areas and their related components are connected to classes (and courses) within the SkillsPlus system. The Skillgroups component is where users create and maintain skillgroups. It is also where users assign one or more skill Areas to a skillgroup - and then assign skillgroups to appropriate classes.
The process of using skillgroups helps to simplify the task of assigning skills to various classes on a year-to-year basis. Skillgroups assigned to classes remain static from one year to next and are not dependent on an instance or revision of a given skill list. Even after edits have been made to a skill Area and its related components, the skillgroup function ensures that the most recent skill Area data is connected to the classes. Established skillgroups can be edited to reflect changes such as when skill Areas are to be assigned to classes, or when existing skill Areas are unassigned from classes.
