Entering New Skill Area(s)

After filling in the necessary fields on the Skills - Tab Format page you are ready to enter your new skill Area list(s). This is done by first formatting your document correctly in a text editor and then copying and pasting the file into the "Tab Formatted Skills" text box.

Structuring your file:

Begin by creating a text (*.txt) file of your skill Area(s) in a text editing tool such as Notepad or TextPad.

1. Staring at the top left-hand corner of your document, simply enter the name of the first Area you wish to add.

2. Next, hit the “Enter” key on your keyboard, to move your cursor to the next line. Hit your “Tab” key once, and enter the name of the first Subarea within this Area.

3. Next, hit your “Enter” key to drop down to the next line. Hit your “Tab” key twice and enter the first Skill that is associated with this Subarea.

4.Repeat step 3 until all Skills for the given Subarea have been entered.

5.Repeat Steps 2 and 3 adding all other Subareas and related Skills that are associated with this Area.

6. If you are entering more than one Area, repeat the above steps beginning with Step 1.

7. Select and copy the contents of your file into the "Tab Formatted Skills" text box and click on the "Import" button at the top of the page.

NOTE: Be Sure That:

The first line of the file (your Area description) begins flush-left at the top of your file.

You use the “Tab” key as indicated (as opposed to entering some other type of spacing) as the import tool “reads” the number of tabs entered to distinguish what record type has been entered on a given line.

Each individual Area, each individual Subarea, and each individual Skill must always begin and end on a single line regardless of length. The import tool “reads” each line of text as a single and complete record. Wrapping, or breaking up individual records onto more than one line of your file will cause the import tool to read the data as multiple records.
